For more than fifty
years, 900 Dundas Street
has been synonymous with family.
In 1949, Sadie and
Emil Semkowski were well known in the London East community as
proprietors of the Queens Park Café. For more than fifteen years,
their son Joseph worked alongside his parents in the restaurant.
Then in1963, Joseph took over the family business and converted the
restaurant into Semco Paint Limited, a retail outlet selling paint
and cleaning products.
Throughout the
years, Semco Paint Ltd. has helped more than fifty teenagers work
their way through university…and one of those teens was Barry
Statchuk, who eventually became part of the Semkowski family when he
married Joseph’s daughter, Carol.
Continuing with
tradition, Barry and Carol took over the operations in 1980 and
expanded the business. Over the years, they have tripled the number
of employees – and tripled the floor space. After purchasing the
business next door, they renovated the two buildings to create an
inviting show room and spacious warehouse.
Semco Paint Ltd. is
London’s leading supplier of paint and janitorial cleaning equipment
and supplies to a diverse industry ranging from independent beauty
salons, retailers, and churches to large industrial, commercial,
institutional, and health care facilities.
Today, Semco Paint
Ltd. is flourishing as a family run business (Sadie and Emil’s great
granddaughters work with the company part time), which takes pride in
providing the type of personal service that most businesses have
abandoned. Their show room is a place where patrons can come in to
simply chat…or to discover the latest innovations from leading
manufacturers in the field.
